What happens in the first session?
The first session is an Initial Assessment, an opportunity to present your issues and explore your history. We would check out if counselling or psychotherapy is a suitable intervention for your particular requirements and decide if we are able to work together.
What is the frequency of sessions?
Usually on a weekly or fortnightly basis, at the same time and day. I do however have flexibility within my diary to accommodate the needs of shift workers and other clients who struggle to attend on a regular basis. Each session lasts 50 minutes for individuals and EMDR ( Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing) sessions can be extended to 90 minutes.
When are appointment times?
I work during the day time Monday to Friday and into the evening a couple of times a week.
What is the cost?
The session fee is £60 for individuals, payable at the end of the session, by either cash or bank transfer. The facility of invoicing at month end, can also be arranged. A 90-minute EMDR session is £90. Clinical supervision fees are £60 an hour.
Where is the practice located?
The West Street Counselling Centre is a quiet, private practice, situated in the main retail and business area of West Street, Fareham a 10 minute walk from Fareham train station and 5 minute walk from Fareham Bus station. Free on street parking is available in nearby Western Road, for two hours and the nearest pay & display car park is in Malthouse Lane, a couple of minutes walk from the practice.
Central Fareham can be accessed from junction 11 of the M27 motorway.
Since the beginning of the pandemic in 2020, a COVID-19 risk assessment has been continually reviewed and updated. Hand sanitiser is available at the practice, social distancing is observed in the building and there is a fresh air circulation system in operation.
For clients who prefer not to visit in person, sessions can be held remotely via video calling applications (such as Skype or Zoom) or by telephone.
